DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin faced controversy after an alleged double-meaning remark about actor Trisha during a rally on the Cauvery water issue. He was arrested following a complaint and later released, though he denied the claims. The incident is not isolated. Mulayam Singh Yadav sparked nationwide anger in 2014 when he suggested that young men accused of rape should not face the death penalty, describing such acts as mistakes. Azam Khan drew criticism during the 2019 elections for a personal remark about rival Jaya Prada, leading the Election Commission to suspend his campaigning for 72 hours. Digvijaya Singh faced backlash in 2013 after comments about Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan that many saw as objectifying. Pappu Yadav was condemned in 2026 for claiming that some women advance in politics through sexual favours, prompting a notice from the Bihar State Women’s Commission. He later apologised.
