After brewing tea, many people discard the used bag, yet the leaves inside retain the ability to absorb moisture and odors while aiding light cleaning tasks. The key is to let the bag cool and dry fully before any reuse. These simple steps require little time and divert waste from the bin. A refrigerator can accumulate food odors despite regular cleaning. Placing a fully dried tea bag on a small dish in one corner helps absorb some smells. Replace it every few days. It supports but does not replace thorough cleaning. Shoes can trap moisture and develop odors, especially in damp weather. Inserting a dry used tea bag into each shoe overnight allows the leaves to draw out moisture and lessen stale smells. This works best on slightly damp footwear. Used tea leaves decompose naturally and enrich compost. Empty the contents into a compost bin or add the entire bag if it contains no plastic. Check packaging first, as some bags include synthetic fibers. The leaves supply organic material that aids the composting process. Tea leaves can also be mixed lightly into garden soil. They break down to improve texture and add nutrients, though heavy application should be avoided to maintain proper airflow. A thin scattering is usually sufficient. Dust on indoor plant leaves reduces light absorption. Gently wiping broad, smooth leaves with a cooled tea bag removes surface dust and restores a cleaner look. Kitchen bins often smell before they fill. Adding a few dry tea bags at the bottom absorbs excess moisture and reduces odors between cleanings. Closed cupboards and drawers can develop stale air. A dried tea bag placed inside absorbs unwanted smells. For light scent, add a drop of essential oil once the bag is dry. Garlic, onions, and fish leave persistent odors on skin. Rubbing a cooled tea bag over hands before washing helps reduce these smells. Cooled black tea can clean stainless steel items and remove light water marks. Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth dipped in the tea, then dry thoroughly. It suits light cleaning only. Plastic or glass containers that retain mild food odors can be rinsed with cooled tea before a final water wash. Leftover tea also reduces fingerprints on glass when applied with a wrung-out cloth and buffed dry.
