Apple has tested memory chips made by China’s CXMT in products such as iPhones and MacBooks. The effort aims to address component shortages caused by rising AI demand, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The company held early discussions with CXMT, China’s largest chipmaker by market value, about using the parts in some devices sold in China. Reuters could not confirm the report independently. Neither Apple nor CXMT replied to requests for comment. Earlier reports indicated CXMT may build a second memory plant in Beijing. Laptop makers HP and Acer have already adopted CXMT chips in models sold outside the United States to reduce supply issues.
