Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Thursday at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Dispur to mark her silver medal win in the 75 kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Chief Minister presented her with a state government cheque for Rs 30 lakh in recognition of the achievement. He praised her skill and resolve in international competition, noting that the result brings pride to Assam and the nation while inspiring young athletes. The Chief Minister described her as a role model whose success stems from dedication and self-belief, and he expressed hope for further accomplishments. Borgohain gave the Chief Minister two Indian team jerseys as a Games memento. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Biswajit Daimari, Additional Chief Secretary K. K. Dwivedi, and Sports Department Special Secretary KJ Hilali attended the event. Borgohain claimed her first Commonwealth Games medal by finishing second in the women’s 75 kg final after a close loss to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree.
