India versus Sri Lanka live score: India encounter a demanding examination by spin in the two-Test series against Sri Lanka that starts in Galle on Saturday. The series carries weight for head coach Gautam Gambhir as India pursue a necessary reset in Test cricket. Under Gambhir, India have excelled in limited-overs formats by claiming the Champions Trophy, Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Their Test results tell another tale. Home series losses to New Zealand and South Africa have damaged India’s World Test Championship prospects. The string of weak performances, along with the departure of two assistant coaches and a fielding coach, has heightened calls for a new beginning. Gambhir is not expected to face immediate removal should India lose in Sri Lanka. Still, another poor series would prompt talks on the team’s red-ball path. India’s bid for recovery will prove tough in Galle. Sri Lanka have secured 27 of 49 Tests at the ground since 1998. Much of that success stems from their spinners. The hosts lack players such as Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath, yet Prabath Jayasuriya and Ramesh Mendis can still exploit Galle conditions.
