A 20-year-old engineering student from Arunachal Pradesh was found dead in his rented room near Kothamangalam in Kerala, police reported on Sunday. The victim, Michi Marpu from Naharlagun in Papum Pare district, was a third-year B Tech student at MA College of Engineering. Authorities discovered him on the floor with a rope around his neck on Saturday evening. He was taken to the local taluk hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police believe he tried to hang himself but the rope snapped. A three-page suicide note in English and Hindi was recovered from the room. Investigators suspect academic pressure from low marks may have contributed, though a full inquiry is ongoing. Fellow students plan to protest, claiming the college’s minimum credit requirement of 22 exceeds the 18 credits set by Kerala Technological University. The college has not commented. A postmortem will occur once family members arrive, and Kothamangalam police have registered an unnatural death case.
