Meeting someone via a dating app often seems routine, involving messages and a decision to meet in person. For Monica White, the encounter proved unforgettable. Her experience is portrayed in the Netflix film The Dating App Killer: The Monica White Story, which details her connection to Anthony Robinson, later identified by investigators as the Shopping Cart Killer. The movie reached Netflix on August 15, 2026, following its Lifetime premiere. White, recently divorced, linked with Robinson on Tagged in late 2020 while seeking companionship rather than commitment. Their initial exchanges and video calls appeared normal until they arranged an in-person meeting. Robinson traveled from Harrisonburg, Virginia, to Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, in January 2021. During that visit, he mentioned disliking rejection by women, which White viewed as a warning sign. She also reported discomfort when he attempted to restrain her during an intimate moment and proposed moving in together shortly after meeting. White declined and asked him to leave during his February return visit ahead of her birthday. His reaction appeared erratic, and he stayed at a Harrisburg motel before offering her money to visit, which she refused. After seeing him there, she noted a marked change in his demeanor. Robinson was arrested in November 2021 and linked to the deaths of two women in Virginia whom he allegedly met through dating sites. He received a life sentence in 2025 for those crimes, with further investigations ongoing. White recognized his mugshot and later reflected on the initial normalcy that masked emerging concerns, ultimately trusting her instincts to end contact.
