Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the end of his long career may be approaching. At age 41, the Portugal captain stated in a recent interview that the present season could mark his final one as a professional player, concluding more than two decades at the elite level.
In remarks published by Vogue this week, Ronaldo discussed what he hopes to leave behind upon retirement. The comments come as he remains a leading goal scorer, marking his most direct comments on the topic so far.
The statements coincided with personal developments, including his marriage to Georgina Rodriguez in a private ceremony at their Cascais residence last week. He has since resumed duties with Al Nassr but missed the Saudi Pro League match against Al Fateh after international commitments with Portugal.
In the interview, Ronaldo said, “This will probably be my last year in football and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.” He noted that his 25-year career is nearing its close while he maintains strong form.
Last season he ranked third among scorers in the Saudi Pro League with 28 goals for Al Nassr and shows no clear signs of physical slowdown. He also spoke about planning for life after football, saying he has many activities lined up to avoid a sense of emptiness.
Ronaldo mentioned interests such as travel, family time, and recreational sports like padel. He has previously considered club ownership but ruled out coaching. Regarding his international career, he indicated any departure would be spontaneous yet carefully considered.
Ronaldo has scored 976 goals in 1,326 matches and needs 24 more to reach 1,000. He continues to play for both Al Nassr and Portugal, having missed one league game due to national team duties.
