New Delhi: Officials have increased agricultural expenditures early in the fiscal year to protect rural earnings and consumption, given threats from El Nino and below-normal rainfall to crop production. More than one-fifth of the yearly farm budget was used in the opening three months of FY27, over double the rate from the prior period, per official statistics checked by Mint and two sources. Fertilizer outlays have also risen at a faster pace.
