West Midlands Police have issued a fresh appeal concerning a Birmingham woman who disappeared in southern France nearly 50 years ago. Sarjit Kaur Mann was last seen in September 1976 while on holiday with her family in Antibes. The 20-year-old University of Birmingham student chose to remain in France when her relatives returned home, saying she wished to visit local museums and spend time with people she had met. Days after the family arrived back in the UK, an unidentified woman phoned to say Sarjit had drowned. Investigators believe she may have encountered a group of women around her age, one reportedly called Jane. Police continue to investigate the case with an open mind and are seeking any new information that could explain what happened. The inquiry remains active, and officers hope renewed attention around the time of her 70th birthday will prompt someone with details to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police.
