A 26-year-old Indian national died in Detroit days after being declared brain dead following a road accident. Nithyanand Reddy Gannu was riding his motorcycle on July 18 when a car struck him, causing severe injuries that included a fracture requiring immediate surgery. He later developed cerebral fat embolism, a rare condition in which fat particles from the broken bone enter the bloodstream and create clots in the brain. Friends and relatives launched a fundraiser to cover medical costs. Gannu, originally from Nirmal district in Telangana, had moved to the United States three years earlier to study emergency medical services. He had recently finished the program and begun working in Detroit. He remained in intensive care on a ventilator under multiple specialist teams. On July 23, his birthday, friends visited him at the hospital while he was unconscious. Hours afterward, he was pronounced dead.
