Netflix has announced the release date for its upcoming coming-of-age dance comedy Best of the Best, set to premiere on September 18, 2026. The project centers on the competitive world of collegiate Bollywood-fusion dance at UCLA. It follows childhood friends Maya and Anjali as they navigate freshman year, family pressures, and new relationships while aiming for victory at the national championship. The cast includes Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Priyanka Kedia, and Hasan Minhaj, who also co-wrote the script. Director Lena Khan highlighted the script’s blend of dance, friendship, spectacle, and emotional depth. The writers drew inspiration from their own university experiences in the South Asian dance circuit after completing another project in 2020. Additional cast members feature Lilly Singh, Sasha Bhasin, and Chaneil Kular. The story aims to showcase the creative outlet that Bollywood-fusion dance provides for many South Asian students in America.
