Telangana operates 36 government medical colleges providing over 4,400 MBBS seats, yet only four appear among the top 144 government medical institutions nationally in the International Institutional Ranking Framework 2026 rankings.

Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad ranks highest from the state at 43rd place. Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad follows at 52nd, Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal at 60th, and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Adilabad at 139th. AIIMS New Delhi leads the national government category.

In the private medical colleges section, 18 Telangana institutions appear among 187 ranked nationally. The state has 29 private colleges offering about 5,850 MBBS seats. Christian Medical College Vellore tops the private list.

The results highlight a mixed outcome. Established government colleges perform well, while many newer ones do not appear in the rankings.

Three Telangana dental colleges also feature. Army College of Dental Sciences in Secunderabad ranks 33rd, followed by Malla Reddy Institute of Dental Sciences at 53rd and Malla Reddy Dental College for Women at 64th. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences in New Delhi leads the dental category.

The IIRF evaluates institutions on nine parameters covering academic reputation, graduate outcomes, research, demand ratio, employer views, institutional development, peer perception, public perception, and overall impact.
