A 400-year-old cannon weighing nearly 3.5 tonnes was taken from Narwar Fort in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district. The artefact, kept in the fort’s Open Kacheri area, is thought to have been removed during the night of July 15-16. Officials suspect an organised group dealing in illegal antiquities carried out the theft. Investigators say the thieves first tried to move the cannon on July 5 but could not transport it due to its weight. They returned on July 15, shifted the object and loaded it onto a waiting vehicle.
