Job seekers demonstrating against alleged irregularities in Jharkhand recruitment exams will meet state officials again on Monday, August 17, 2026, as their protest enters its 24th day and six participants remain on hunger strike. The previous day, demonstrators burned effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, claiming the JMM-Congress coalition had not acted decisively on their requests. That evening the government proposed a seventh round of discussions at 2 p.m. on Monday. Earlier talks had produced no agreement. The invitation followed a meeting between protesters and local officials at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. JPSC-JSSC Reforms Manch leader Ravindra Paswan said the group would attend to pursue a resolution through dialogue while insisting on a CBI inquiry into exam irregularities and cancellation of the JSSC-CGL tests. The demonstrators also staged a torchlight march from the stadium to Albert Ekka Chowk, where similar actions occurred in several districts. They expressed frustration that the ruling alliance had treated the issue politically rather than addressing the future of aspirants. On August 15 the protesters announced plans to surround the Chief Minister’s residence on August 20 and called for students statewide to join in Ranchi. Paswan further demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation and urged the Congress to withdraw support from the JMM-led government if no action followed. Opposition leader Babulal Marandi backed the call for a CBI probe, questioning why the government resisted such an investigation, and warned that continued inaction might draw more youth into street protests. He added that the BJP would offer moral support to the peaceful demonstration. The state Congress unit is scheduled to discuss the matter on August 18, with spokesperson Rakesh Sinha stating the party would press for transparency and a timely recruitment process. The government has meanwhile outlined steps to improve exam integrity, including an annual calendar, technology-based safeguards, prompt release of answer keys and OMR sheets, and layered accountability. It has also invited suggestions from students, teachers and parents on further reforms.
