Heavy rainfall persists across parts of Kerala, prompting the India Meteorological Department to raise the warning level for the state on Friday, August 7, 2026. The latest bulletin from the IMD places Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod under a red alert for extreme rainfall. An orange alert covers Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki, where very heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours. All other districts remain under a yellow alert for isolated heavy showers. Upper cyclonic circulations over the southeast and northwest Bay of Bengal, along with areas near north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, are driving the intense rain. In the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Kumarakom in Kottayam recorded 14 cm of rain, Vaikkom measured 13 cm, and both Kottayam and Cherthala in Alappuzha saw 9 cm each.
