Mumbai Police has launched an inquiry after a video went viral showing a police driver warning detained student protesters that he would file false drug cases against them if they resumed demonstrations. The footage appears to have been recorded by the students while inside a police van following their detention on Wednesday.

In the clip, the officer is heard threatening to destroy the students’ futures by planting drugs, claiming they would be unable to obtain bail and would remain imprisoned. The students, visible in the back seat, react with laughter. The officer also states that the protests have caused hardship for police personnel.

The incident occurred amid student demonstrations in Mumbai supporting a campaign in New Delhi led by the CJP group. That movement calls for changes in education policy and the resignation of the Union Education Minister due to multiple exam paper leaks. The protests intensified after authorities detained participants attempting to approach Parliament on July 20, leading to similar actions in other states.

In recent days, students along with public figures have gathered at sites such as Shivaji Park, Chembur, and Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
