A video shared online shows students at a school in Rajasthan’s Jalore district protesting the shortage of teachers. The footage features a teenage girl in uniform explaining that the school has lacked second-grade teachers for a year and has only two first-grade instructors, one for history and one for Hindi. She notes that the history teacher also serves as principal and handles administrative duties. The students are calling for appointments of first-, second-, and third-grade teachers plus L1 and L2 staff, threatening to lock the school and block a road if demands are unmet. They chant that they seek rights rather than charity. Reports indicate the school is located in Mengalwa village. Online reactions include support for the students’ organized approach and concerns about potential future protests over unrelated issues. A June 2026 report highlighted that only four in ten rural students complete Class 12, citing over one million vacant teaching posts nationwide, preferences for urban postings, and challenges like multi-grade teaching and absenteeism that affect attendance, especially among girls.
