A man with a fractured leg received only cardboard as support at a government hospital in Bihar, with a video of the incident later spreading widely online. The patient, Krishna Kumar, was injured on 3 August in a road accident near Harsain Bridge when an auto-rickshaw struck his vehicle. Police took him to Manjhaul Sub-divisional Hospital, where staff applied cardboard pieces wrapped with bandages to his leg as temporary support. He was then referred to Sadar Hospital in Begusarai. Kumar reported severe pain during the process and noted that his brother was traveling with him. At Sadar Hospital, he received an IV drip but was informed that a plaster cast would require a week, leading him to seek treatment at a private facility instead. The video prompted online criticism regarding government healthcare standards despite prior infrastructure spending. Hospital in-charge Abhinav Priyadarshi stated that the use of cotton and bandages was standard first aid and not medically incorrect, explaining that no orthopaedic doctor or dresser was available at the time. Begusarai Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar confirmed he had viewed the video and said an investigation would be conducted, noting that while temporary support can serve as valid first aid, the case requires further review for any negligence.
