When the opposition INDIA bloc convenes in Delhi on Monday, conditions will differ sharply from its April 15 gathering, where members coordinated parliamentary tactics on delimitation and women’s reservation bills. Recent state election results have left the group weaker and altered internal dynamics. The DMK will not attend, angered by Congress ending their partnership after Tamil Nadu polls. Meanwhile the Trinamool Congress aims for a stronger part after losing power in West Bengal and confronting possible organisational strain. Bloc leaders expect heated exchanges, as frustration has built among several members. The CPI(M) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have signalled unhappiness with Congress methods. The JMM objects to Congress naming a candidate alone for a Rajya Sabha seat in Jharkhand, while the CPI(M) criticises Congress attacks on former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan during the state campaign. A senior Samajwadi Party figure noted widespread public anger at the government yet said the opposition struggles to harness it electorally. The leader urged Congress to consult partners if it seeks to head the alliance. A Left representative called for improved coordination and warned against internal political manoeuvres. Additional topics include electoral roll revisions, the delimitation measure, simultaneous elections legislation, and education system problems. The DMK’s absence marks a significant gap. After Congress aligned with the TVK in Tamil Nadu, the DMK refuses further cooperation. Some INDIA figures have contacted DMK leaders without success. The TVK will also stay away, as only parliamentary parties are invited. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are expected to ease tensions. The TMC itself deals with internal dissent following its West Bengal defeat and now seeks alliance backing against the BJP. Congress communications head Jairam Ramesh stated 23 parties will participate, while acknowledging absences due to individual circumstances yet shared opposition to government policies.
