On Friday, Nitish Kumar was sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha, indicating his upcoming departure from Bihar’s state administration and facilitating the establishment of a new government in the state.
The ceremony in New Delhi was attended by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary.
A day earlier, Kumar had arrived in the capital and announced his intention to resign as Chief Minister shortly. He explained to journalists that he felt he had achieved significant progress in Bihar and now planned to concentrate on his duties in the national capital.
Kumar stated that he had made substantial contributions to the state and believed it was time to shift his focus. He mentioned he would resign within a few days, allowing new leaders to assume the roles of Chief Minister and other ministerial positions.
Kumar holds the record as Bihar’s longest-tenured Chief Minister. His political career began as a state legislator in 1985, followed by a stint as a Union Minister in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He first assumed the Chief Minister position in 2005 and is recognized as one of India’s most seasoned political figures.
