India is preparing to resume imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Qatar in the near future. This follows a two-day trip by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, during which he held meetings with Qatar Energy executives and key government figures.
Qatar previously supplied around 40% of India’s LNG, which made up half of the country’s natural gas usage. The initial shipments of LNG to India originated from Qatar’s Ras Laffan facility about 25 years ago, destined for the now-defunct Enron power project in Dabhol. Over time, India has emerged as a key buyer, accounting for approximately 15% of Qatar’s yearly LNG output. Due to conflict-related issues, both nations invoked force majeure clauses to suspend their agreements.
