Political tensions in Tamil Nadu have risen sharply after the ruling TVK accused the DMK of attempting to bribe its legislators, while the DMK responded by filing complaints of horse-trading against the Vijay administration. The conflict grew after police detained three individuals suspected of trying to influence a TVK lawmaker to oppose Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar during an upcoming no-confidence motion. Reports suggest former DMK minister V Senthil Balaji may have been involved in efforts to approach TVK members.

Uthangarai TVK MLA Dr N Elaiyaraja submitted a complaint to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner on June 29. He stated that a representative from an opinion polling firm contacted him on behalf of a major party to arrange a meeting. Despite his refusal, the calls continued, with offers of up to Rs. 35 crore if he supported the motion in a particular way. He rejected the proposal and was reportedly warned against disclosing the conversation.

Following an FIR, authorities arrested three men linked to the case. Investigations revealed connections to the brother of a former DMK minister. TVK officials claimed the DMK leadership had directed efforts to lure legislators with large sums to destabilize the government. They condemned the actions as an attempt to undermine the administration through improper means.

DMK leaders countered by submitting petitions to the Governor and anti-corruption authorities, calling for probes into alleged inducements by the Chief Minister to secure opposition support. They referenced public statements about possible defections and urged a full inquiry into claims of conspiracy and misuse of office.

BJP state leaders also criticized both sides, describing the developments as damaging to democratic standards in the state.
