In Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, two high-ranking Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) officials were reportedly pursued and attacked by a group of men, allegedly headed by someone involved in unauthorized mining, on April 10. The officials were examining surveillance cameras that had been repeatedly vandalized.
An official report was lodged based on a statement from Hafizul Qureshi, BCCL’s security general manager. The event occurred around 12:30 p.m. when BCCL staff and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) members went to the Block-2 mining site to investigate the ongoing destruction of cameras set up to monitor illegal coal extraction.
Qureshi explained to The Indian Express that the cameras were frequently targeted by individuals captured on footage, leading to a collaborative review with CISF. ‘We were evaluating the reasons for the damage and potential safeguards when about 15 to 20 men arrived on motorcycles and confronted us,’ he stated.
