A set of building blocks, including bricks, vehicles, and structures, stands out in a young child’s collection of playthings. This toy has remained in one family for more than 30 years, withstanding vigorous use by relatives, water damage from floods, and long periods of storage. Its lasting quality stems from being constructed of robust, shock-resistant ABS plastic, which is non-toxic and suitable for food contact, allowing it to be handed down through multiple generations.

However, as a new parent, there is growing emphasis on eliminating plastics entirely. Many choose wooden and bamboo options for toys and utensils, attracted by their eco-friendly claims. Yet, experiences often reveal drawbacks: bamboo dishes retain food marks, and wooden tool handles detach after short use. This leads some to revert to reliable stainless steel items from earlier years or select playthings crafted from resilient ABS plastic.
