Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a nearly four-and-a-half-hour meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, focusing on governance improvements, administrative efficiency, and progress toward the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. The session also addressed potential effects of the West Asia situation.

In a social media post the following day, the Prime Minister called the discussions productive and noted exchanges on enhancing daily life and business operations, as well as advancing reforms for a developed India by 2047.

He urged ministers to treat the Viksit Bharat target as a firm commitment. The gathering at Seva Teerth included cabinet ministers and ministers of state, marking the first full council session of the year and serving as a midterm performance review.

Over six ministries delivered presentations on their work and plans, while the Cabinet Secretary and NITI Aayog also contributed. Attention was given to ministries with the quickest file processing. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar provided updates on the Prime Minister’s recent five-nation tour.

Modi highlighted the West Asia crisis and its economic effects, instructing ministries to minimize impacts on citizens. Key sectors such as energy, agriculture, fertilizers, aviation, shipping, and logistics received particular focus. An informal group of ministers led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is monitoring developments, though he was absent due to travel.

The Prime Minister was also acknowledged for completing his tour, which included stops in the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy, resulting in new agreements on energy, defense, trade, and minerals.
