The southwest monsoon is expected to miss its usual arrival in Kerala on June 1. The normal onset date for the monsoon over Kerala, which signals the start of the season across India, is June 1 with a possible variation of about seven days. The India Meteorological Department stated on Saturday that conditions support further progress of the southwest monsoon into southern peninsular India, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu, over the next week. Officials noted that the monsoon is likely to advance into additional areas of the southwest and southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and sections of the Bay of Bengal during the coming four to five days.
