FIFA World Cup 2026: Uruguay have announced their squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with veteran striker Luis Suarez left out. The 39-year-old forward, a key player for the national side over the past 11 years, will miss the event in the United States, Canada and Mexico. This marks the first time Suarez has been excluded since Uruguay returned to the World Cup in South Africa 2010. Another notable absence is midfielder Nahitan Nandez, who started in the qualifiers. Players called up include several from Brazilian clubs such as Flamengo, Palmeiras and Fluminense. Uruguay opens its campaign in Group H against Saudi Arabia on June 16, meets Cape Verde on June 22 and faces Spain on June 27. The squad lists three goalkeepers, eight defenders and twelve midfielders.
