Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd has secured the broadcast rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the company announced. Zee signed an eight-year agreement that also covers other FIFA events in India.
Punit Goenka, CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises, stated the company is pleased to deliver one of the largest global sports events to viewers in India. Football appeals across regions and age groups, and the spending on rights and new sports channels shows confidence in its future growth.
Romy Gai, FIFA chief business officer, noted that the Indian market holds key value for FIFA due to its large young and enthusiastic fan base.
The deal includes 39 FIFA events such as the men’s and women’s U-17 World Cups from 2026 to 2034, U-20 men’s and women’s World Cups, futsal World Cups, and the Intercontinental Cup.
FIFA had sought around 100 million dollars for the India rights but accepted a lower offer after reducing the asking price to 60 million dollars. The contract was finalized just ten days before the tournament, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico. Exact financial terms were not disclosed.
This edition will feature 48 teams for the first time. The prior rights holder Sony did not enter the bidding process.
