The Sports Ministry will open bids in two weeks for the conceptualisation of a sports city at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium complex in the capital. A transaction adviser will first be appointed, after which detailed project proposals will be assessed, according to a source familiar with the plans. No firm schedule has been set for construction, though progress is expected once a suitable bidder is chosen. In November 2025 the ministry approved the demolition of the existing JLN Stadium to make room for a new complex featuring venues for major Olympic sports and accommodation for athletes. The design will draw inspiration from a similar facility in Doha.
