Marius Borg Høiby, son of Norway’s crown princess, received a four-year prison sentence after being convicted of multiple offences, including two counts of rape. He was also given a two-year restraining order against one victim. The Oslo district court delivered the verdict on Monday, nearly three months after his six-week trial. Judge Jon Sverdrup Efjestad found him guilty of assaulting former girlfriend Nora Haukland, the only victim named publicly. He was acquitted on two other rape charges. Of the 40 offences he faced, which included four rapes, assaults, restraining order breaches, drug and driving violations, one restraining order charge was dismissed. The 29-year-old had denied the most serious accusations but admitted some lesser ones and may appeal. The case occurred amid difficulties for the royal family, including the illness of his mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who faces scrutiny over ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The court denied a request to release him temporarily to visit her before a lung transplant. The trial attracted wide attention, with journalists lining up outside the court before it opened at 7.30am.
