Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the agreement between the United States and Iran to conclude the conflict in West Asia. He stated that India hopes the deal will bring stability to the region and protect international trade routes.

In a post on X, Modi noted that the fighting had created major economic problems worldwide and resulted in deaths in multiple nations.

“I welcome the understanding reached between the United States and Iran on ending the conflict in West Asia, which has caused serious economic disruption across the world and led to loss of life in many countries,” he wrote.

Modi added that India expects the deal’s implementation to promote peace and allow free movement of goods through key sea lanes.

“India hopes that the implementation of this understanding will help restore peace and stability in the region and ensure the freedom of navigation and commerce,” the Prime Minister said.

He also voiced optimism that further talks on outstanding matters would lead to a permanent resolution.

“We look forward to deliberations on the remaining issues reaching a sustainable final agreement,” he added.

The remarks followed reports that Washington and Tehran had reached a draft framework to halt hostilities, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and resume discussions on Iran’s nuclear program. The outline reportedly offers temporary sanctions relief, releases frozen assets, and sets a 60-day period for further negotiations. Iranian outlets described it as part of a wider 14-point plan, though the complete text remains unpublished.

The development matters for India, which depends on energy shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil route. The earlier fighting had raised fears of shipping delays, rising fuel costs, and broader regional conflict.
