Senior Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said Thursday he has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting steps to protect members of parliament. The request follows an alleged attack on party colleague Mahua Moitra during a visit to her constituency in West Bengal’s Nadia district the previous day. Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Roy stated that Moitra faced the incident but remained in the area until the situation calmed. He added that she informed the state police chief, yet officers took no action.
