The Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Wrestling Federation of India to resolve within two weeks the show-cause notice sent to athlete Vinesh Phogat concerning claims of misconduct and breaches of anti-doping regulations.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ended the hearing on Phogat’s challenge to the notice, the federation’s selection rules, and related circular after officials stated that her request regarding Asian Games trials had become moot.
The judge ordered the federation to decide the May 9 notice within two weeks and inform both the petitioner and the court. Federation representatives confirmed that Phogat would receive a personal hearing before any final decision.
Although Phogat’s counsel highlighted broader concerns about the selection policy, the court indicated that a new petition would be required to address those matters separately.
It was noted that Phogat had been allowed to compete in the Asian Games trials following earlier court directions. Her counsel also mentioned receipt of a new notice regarding her conduct during those trials.
The original notice had declared her ineligible for domestic events until June 26, citing a required six-month waiting period after returning from retirement under anti-doping guidelines. Phogat had contested the policy limiting trial eligibility to medalists from specific events, arguing it unfairly overlapped with her maternity-related break.
