India has omitted Sanju Samson from the squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour. The decision follows the exclusion of captain Suryakumar Yadav from the same group. Both players featured prominently in India’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this year. Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar addressed the move regarding Yadav but offered limited details on Samson. Samson had performed well during the tournament after earning a place due to struggles against spin by other openers. However, his form became inconsistent again during the IPL and later matches. Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s strong performances influenced the choice. Sources indicate selectors wanted to give Sooryavanshi immediate opportunities rather than have him wait. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan retained their spots after maintaining better consistency. Prabhsimran Singh received his first international call-up. The squad for Zimbabwe is led by Shreyas Iyer. Possible changes to India’s Asian Games squad are also under consideration by the BCCI.
