The Shiromani Akali Dal said Wednesday it will screen the film Satluj in locations across Punjab after its removal from an OTT platform. The Aam Aadmi Party accused the SAD of backing those responsible for injustices against Punjab and the Sikh community.
The movie, previously called Punjab ’95, depicts activist Jaswant Singh Khalra during the militancy period in Punjab from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. It was released uncut on ZEE5 under the title Satluj on July 3.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal directed all party workers and leaders to show the film in villages, towns and cities statewide. He said the purpose is to inform youth and future generations about the repression under earlier Congress governments.
AAP Punjab spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal cited remarks by Paramjit Kaur Khalra, wife of the late Jaswant Khalra, claiming Badal had sought a central government ban on the film. He accused the Badal family of helping suppress the truth alongside the Congress and BJP.
