The India Meteorological Department has forecast additional rainfall across most parts of the country following the Southwest Monsoon’s full coverage on July 9. Officials anticipate further showers over northern hilly regions and the Gangetic plains, with heavy downpours expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, sections of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar. Fairly widespread rain is also predicted for Kerala, parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Telangana. At least 30 people have died in rain-related incidents so far, with 21 fatalities recorded in Surat due to flooding. In Himachal Pradesh, intense rains have blocked roads, damaged bridges and uprooted trees, forcing school closures in several areas. A 70-year-old man died after being struck by falling rocks in Kullu district. Multiple routes in Shimla were shut to traffic amid rockfalls on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway, while Sirmaur and Solan districts recorded the heaviest precipitation since Thursday evening. In Uttarakhand, one teenager was killed and others injured as landslides blocked 118 roads, including the Yamunotri National Highway. A 100-meter section near Syanachatti in Uttarkashi district suffered damage, with repairs underway. Delhi experienced clear skies on Saturday, though isolated showers are forecast from July 11 to 13, with subdued activity expected until July 15.
