Police in Telangana’s Kamareddy district have filed a case after a 42-year-old woman Booth Level Officer reported that three individuals, including two women, prevented her from performing her duties, verbally abused her and physically assaulted her during house-to-house voter enumeration. Authorities stated on Sunday that the probe is ongoing.
The official’s complaint described the July 10 incident, which occurred while she conducted voter enumeration. She said two women handed her an Enumeration Form, but a dispute arose when she declined to accept it because it lacked a required photograph.
The complainant stated that one woman claimed she was from Bangladesh and therefore would not attach a photo. After the officer rejected the form, the two women allegedly blocked her work, insulted her and pushed her.
She further reported that a man arrived, questioned the rejection by referencing Bangladesh, and threatened to kill her unless she accepted the form. The accused then seized her mobile phone, damaged it, and continued the abuse and assault, according to the complaint.
Police registered the case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police official confirmed the woman who submitted the form is Indian. The house-to-house enumeration for the SIR exercise in Telangana began on June 25 and runs until July 24.
