England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook represents Brendon McCullum’s attacking ‘Bazball’ philosophy. McCullum’s removal as Test coach has affected Brook.

Following England’s six-wicket loss to India in the opening ODI at Birmingham, Brook noted McCullum’s major influence on his development. He highlighted McCullum’s strong contributions to the Test side.

McCullum, who continues as ODI and T20I coach, acknowledged that results fell short after seven defeats in nine Tests. Brook understood McCullum’s sense of letting the team down.

Brook described similar feelings after making just one run. He stressed that success requires winning matches.

India’s Washington Sundar has received support from coach Gautam Gambhir. Sundar remained unbeaten on 52 in the ODI and shared a 102-run stand with Axar Patel. He praised Gambhir and Ashish Nehra for their guidance and values playing multiple roles.
