He hopes the side forms better partnerships in future innings. Regarding his own dismissal, he said it is never pleasant to hit a catch straight to cover. He called Sundar an important player and noted the injury occurred while running between wickets. The side relied on its main bowlers, though Gill felt the outcome might not have differed as the ball moved for the quick bowlers. Losing a player of Sundar’s quality required tactical adjustments and caused India to lose momentum. On Root’s innings, Gill said the target of 234 kept the required rate manageable. At around 4.5 runs per over Root is highly effective at guiding such chases, whereas a higher rate might have induced an error.
