RJD state spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari resigned from all party positions on Friday. He claimed that national working president and opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav remains unavailable to dedicated party workers. Tiwari noted that spokespersons face growing difficulty defending the party because Tejashwi often steps away during key political developments in Bihar. The departure of a senior public figure ahead of an important bypoll highlights internal tensions over the gap between top leaders and grassroots members. Tiwari, a former sports activist, joined the RJD in 2009 through its sports wing and served as spokesperson from 2014. Although the party has several spokespersons, he frequently took the lead in presenting its positions. He was viewed as an important Brahmin representative supporting efforts to broaden the party’s traditional base. Tiwari said he had worked for the RJD without seeking legislative posts and had been arrested four times while seeking BCCI affiliation for the Lalu faction of the Bihar Cricket Association. He added that Lalu Prasad had introduced him to workers and appointed him spokesperson, but relations changed after leadership passed to Tejashwi. Tiwari stated that Tejashwi is surrounded by flatterers and has no time for committed workers. He said his suggestions about greater engagement went unheeded and that Tejashwi’s absence during the Bankipur bypoll campaign was noticeable. Tiwari submitted his resignation to state president Mangani Lal Mandal. RJD national spokesperson Subodh Kumar Mehta acknowledged Tiwari’s contributions and said the party should address the issues raised, indicating that concerns about an inner circle are shared by other senior figures.
