The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad has detained five additional individuals in connection with an alleged conspiracy involving the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed group. Two of those arrested were linked to a madrasa in Bharuch district, officials stated.
ATS sources said the two men were students at Darul Uloom Matliwala Madrasa in Bharuch. The detentions have led agencies to expand checks in the area to assess any local support or further connections.
The individuals were named as Mohammad Ayubbhai Sunsara, also known as Mohammad Khali, and Mohammad Hasan Hanifbhai Karadia, also known as Hasan Haiderpuri, both aged 20. They are being questioned about their role in the case.
The arrests occurred during an investigation under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Searches yielded Jaish-e-Mohammed flags, material on the group’s leader Masood Azhar, books on extremist views, documents and items reportedly used for making improvised explosive devices.
Investigators claimed the accused studied ways to build explosives and tried to spread extremist ideas. Further probes aim to determine the full scope of the plot, other possible participants and any ties to the banned group.
Surveillance has increased in Bharuch and nearby regions. Officials are reviewing the accused’s activities, contacts and the origin of seized items. No details on operational plans or further detentions have been released yet.
