Pakistani vocalist Aima Baig has stated that recollections of her deceased mother shaped her forthcoming first album titled Guriya. The intimate work traces a path of sorrow, recovery and personal insight developed over several years. In a recent discussion, Baig explained that the record opens a significant phase after her mother passed away in 2017. She noted her mother’s name was Guriya and that words often fail when discussing her. Baig observed that sorrow evolves with time and that growing older heightens awareness of the mother’s absence, which remains painful. She stressed the album presents her own account without outside influence. Despite career accomplishments, Baig said they cannot replace what was lost and that she would exchange much to have her mother return. Creating the album required repeated engagement with memories and possessions, an experience she called harsh yet meaningful and tearful. Contributions came from artists including Atif Aslam, Asim Azhar, Qasim Hasan, Raheel and Mubashir, enriching the project. Baig also discussed challenges of public attention in Pakistan and found clarity during time spent in London, which helped ease pressures and creative blocks. She reflected that much of her early life occurred in view of others and that public perception often focuses on disputes rather than her true self. Looking forward, she seeks recognition for musical work rather than visibility alone. No release date has been set, though Baig has shared updates online.
