An Australian resident of Indian origin named Sunil Sharma was killed by relatives in India in a scheme tied to valuable real estate holdings. One week after his daughter Surbhi Sharma appealed publicly for information about her missing father, Indian police announced four arrests in the case. Those detained include Sharma’s brother, the brother’s wife and son, plus a property developer. The 66-year-old mathematics instructor at Diamond Valley College had traveled to India shortly before retirement to arrange the sale of two holdings. He vanished soon after arrival, with the disappearance first reported on May 23. Sharma held Indian citizenship alongside his Australian status and owned substantial assets there. His daughter described him as intelligent and caring, noting he visited India frequently following his wife’s death four years earlier to finalize property sales before retiring. She mentioned warnings against travel due to risks involving family disputes over assets. Police have not yet confirmed recovery of the body. Investigators say the brother, Satish Sharma, orchestrated the killing to seize the properties via a falsified power of attorney. The victim was reportedly given sedatives and struck on the head with a baseball bat before evidence was destroyed and the body disposed of. CCTV images captured Sharma at one property on May 22, the final day he was seen, while directing painters.
