The Chevening Scholarships program has opened applications for Indian citizens to pursue a fully funded one-year master’s degree at any university in the United Kingdom.
The initiative provides complete financial support and targets Indian nationals who have gained at least two years of work experience after completing their undergraduate studies.
India runs the largest Chevening program worldwide.
Since 1983, more than 4,000 Indian scholars have received awards, highlighting the United Kingdom’s commitment to building future leaders through education.
Recipients return with internationally recognized qualifications, global professional networks, and skills to influence sectors such as public policy, science, business, education, and journalism.
Acting British High Commissioner to India Ben Mellor stated that education is a key pillar of UK-India Vision 2035 and Chevening serves as the flagship program.
It develops future leaders and offers a distinctive opportunity for India’s top talents to study in the UK. The awards are highly competitive yet rewarding.
He encouraged aspiring leaders from across the country to apply, noting ambitions in public policy, scientific discovery, business growth, or societal improvement while joining a vibrant global network.
State government partners from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, and Karnataka, along with TVS Motors, support the program to increase access for marginalized communities and applicants from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, while promoting gender balance.
More than 75 percent of the 2026 cohort comes from tier 2 and tier 3 cities, with many first-generation learners, and women make up 68 percent.
Alumni continue to contribute across India in climate resilience, artificial intelligence, gender equality, journalism, and education.
The scholarships support the UK-India education and skills partnership under Vision 2035 by preparing the next generation of leaders.
Established in 1983, Chevening has become one of the world’s leading international scholarship programs, with more than 60,000 alumni across over 160 countries and territories.
Applicants should review eligibility criteria and guidance carefully before submitting to prepare competitive applications.
