Comedian Raunaq Rajani has claimed that his wife sustained a fractured rib when a police officer kicked her during a demonstration. The event reportedly occurred on July 22, 2026, at Shivaji Park in Mumbai as part of a rally supporting student protesters. The action was organized by the Cockroach Janata Party to call for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protests focused on alleged irregularities and leaks in the NEET examination process nationwide. Rajani posted several videos online that he said showed events before and after the claimed incident, including inside a police vehicle following their detention. He stated the confrontation started when officers detained a young participant. Rajani and his wife questioned the officers and recorded the scene, leading to a rapid escalation. He described trying to protect his wife by holding her hand as the situation worsened. Rajani alleged that an officer in uniform kicked his wife and pulled her hands apart. He also said another officer in a red shirt pushed her forcefully into the police vehicle. Rajani reported suffering a neck sprain while his wife experienced intense rib pain. He stated that they initially ignored the injury, believing others had faced worse treatment. The couple traveled to Delhi the next day without seeking immediate care. When the pain persisted, they consulted a doctor who ordered an X-ray confirming the fracture. Rajani expressed hope for an independent investigation into the matter.
