A former technical program manager at Meta announced plans to return to India after losing his job in recent layoffs. Sridhar Vanka, who joined the company in 2022, shared on LinkedIn that he would relocate to Hyderabad and seek new employment because his US immigration status no longer permitted him to stay. He described the past several weeks as filled with mixed emotions including hope, anxiety, and repeated delays. Vanka noted that his immigration situation had begun to limit professional options and overshadowed daily discussions. His family is now concluding 14 years of life in the United States and preparing to restart in India. Earlier roles at Amazon and TCS preceded his time at Meta. Under H-1B rules, laid-off visa holders typically receive up to 60 days to secure new employment or depart. Extensions via other visa categories have grown harder to obtain, especially for experienced professionals. When asked about the absence of green card sponsorship, Vanka cited insufficient employer investment combined with lengthy backlogs as key factors.
