Three Indian-origin Labour MPs received government positions as Prime Minister Andy Burnham formed his new Cabinet. Kanishka Narayan was appointed Minister for Artificial Intelligence. Satvir Kaur and Harpreet Uppal took on front-bench roles. These moves increase Indian-origin representation in the Labour government. Narayan, Kaur and Uppal join Uma Kumaran, a junior minister in the Foreign Office of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage. Narayan, MP for Vale of Glamorgan and born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, studied at Eton College, Oxford and Stanford. He entered Parliament in July 2024 and advanced to the AI role in July 2026. Kaur, MP for Southampton Test with parents from Punjab, became Minister for Equalities and took additional Home Office duties on safeguarding and equalities. Uppal, MP for Huddersfield, was named Assistant Whip. Seema Malhotra and Preet Kaur Gill moved to the backbenches. Lisa Nandy retained her post as Culture Secretary. The changes highlight rising involvement of British South Asian politicians in government after the 2024 election.
