Sunita Agarwal stated that she and her husband Brij Agarwal prefer to keep their charitable activities private. The Indian-American couple’s recent $5.5 million gift to the St. Luke’s Foundation in Texas drew public attention. Sunita Agarwal noted their discomfort with the exposure. The pair has made multiple prior donations but views philanthropy as a means to build a legacy rather than seek recognition. In an interview, Sunita Agarwal explained that details are usually kept confidential, even from their children, and that education and health remain their main focus areas. Brij Agarwal, born in India, moved to Houston in 1979 at age 17. He earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Houston and later founded VKC Group, a restaurant management firm operating numerous locations in the Greater Houston area. The $5.5 million pledge supports Sugar Land Hospital. Earlier gifts include a presidential endowment at the Cullen College of Engineering and a $1 million donation in 2022 to the University of Houston’s Sugar Land campus, which named an auditorium in their honor.
