MANGALURU: A 21-year-old Indian student from Mangaluru who was enrolled in a BBA program in Germany has died in a suspected drowning in Leipzig. The victim, identified as Mohammed Aniz Abubakker, was a third-semester student at Rahn Education Institution in Halle. He had arrived in Germany roughly 18 months earlier after finishing pre-university studies in Mangaluru. His father works in Saudi Arabia. Four fellow students, two of them Indian nationals, were detained for questioning. Aniz had joined classmates on a hiking trip Thursday morning before the group visited a water recreation site near the Red Bull Arena. Rescue teams recovered his body near the Landauer Bridge later that afternoon. A local lawyer is assisting the Indian Embassy in Berlin with arrangements to return the remains to Mangaluru.
